What I like about this machine:

It's built like a tank, has up to 2 1/2 inch thick cast iron. Never moves from the table even at high speed...
It produces a very neat stitch...
Very easy to thread (top loading threading is easier than lower threading of the bobbin because you cannot get to it as easy as the Cub 7 which is front loading).
Copes with 5 layers plus of denim...
The foot control is very smooth, you can start very slowly and it has nice gradual increase...
It's incredibly quiet...
All metal parts, everything is easy to see working...
External motor, means you can more easily check condition and if belt ok...
Oiling points easy...
Excellent clear instruction manual.

What isn't so good:

It's far too heavy to carry to sewing classes (a trade off of the built quality)...
Only does straight stitch and zig-zag, making a button hole is a chore...
Getting to the bobbin case/shuttle area is tricky...

  1. hey, i have one of these that was passed down to me from my grandma. i havent used it at all since i've had it. i have recently got it out to see if it is in working order and unfortunatly it is. i think it defernitly needs oiling but if i need to replace any parts is there anywhere you suggest to get them from. does it need to be a specialist in old sewing machines or would most sewing shops stock these types of things? would appreciate any feedback. thanks nikki . ps yours looks fab!

  2. One of my shocking stories from Pearsonland involves an olive skinned boy with long blond hair, brown eyes and a learning disorder being a recipient of pinafore eroticism and having a baby Model 45 Frister & Rossmann electric sewing machine. His mother, sisters and deceivingly behaved tanned skinned female companions with long curly hair and brown eyes find it particularly amusing to see him sitting down with his hair up, his toenails painted lime green and wearing a lime green dress showing a lot of arm and leg cleavage, tan coloured pantyhose and beige open toe sandals with high heels to wind bobbins and carry out furnishing work with the machine.
